In the spirit of Halloween we offer the first lady of horror immortalized on a vintage tee. During my teenage years I tuned in to Elvira all the time and I admit I was scared stiff. Hey, the double entendre was Elvira’s shtick, so no comments from the peanut gallery.

Defunkd’s exclusive collection of vintage t-shirts for sale at reasonably exorbitant prices.

Item #7: Bob Marley and the Wailers Island Records Promo
Album: Exodus
Year: 1977
Circulation: In this condition?! Next to nil. Don’t believe us? Check eBay.
Wow, this is the rarest shirt we’ve ever had our hands on. It’s an Island records promo for the legendary 1977 release of what Time Magazine called, “The greatest album of the century.” To up the ante, this is not a typical t-shirt – it’s a unique canvas poncho style piece with a wide neck and longer arms. It’s meant to be loose fitting but in the event you’re crazy enough to wear this instead of framing it, note that if the measurements below typically suit you, this will not. The fabric has no give so it’s best to consider this a size small.

Brand: None

Condition: This item is in near mint vintage condition.

A comprehensive resource of defunct t-shirt labels manufactured prior to the year 2000.

Brand #14: Mayo Spruce
Circulation: Fairly Common
Era: 1950-80s
Information: Trademarked by the Washington Mills Company in the mid 1950s as a men’s and boy’s undergarment label. The brand flourished as the t-shirt became standard outerwear and blanks for printing were in heavy demand. The trademark expired in 1996 until 2009 when Country Trading Co. Ltd. out of Japan filed for the trademark, likely to make use of their familiar vintage branding. The registration was opposed in 2010 and there appears to be an intellectual property dispute underway.
