Era: 1973
Fact: Decca released Thin Lizzy’s version of a traditional Irish ballad, “Whiskey in the Jar”, as a single. The band was upset with Decca because they felt the song wasn’t representative of their sound and image. Low and behold the song ended up topping the charts in the UK and being one of the most popular songs they ever recorded.
