Fact: The Shining is based on a Stephen King novel by the same name. King has stated he doesn’t care about the movie versions of his work but expressed this to be the only one he remembers hating. He also felt Jack Nicholson was a poor selection for the lead role because audiences were already familiar with his descent into madness after starring in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
