Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees has succumbed to a long battle with cancer. Robin, along with brothers Maurice and Barry, formed the group which came to define the disco era. Their signature tune, “Staying Alive,” burned up dance floors in the 1970s. The song was an anthem to the hit film “Saturday Night Fever,” which launched John Travolta into stardom.

Headline: Whitney Houston Dead

Sadly, Whitney Houston passed away today. Her publicist announced the news but with few details – no cause of death has been announced – not even her whereabouts at the time.

After tearing up the charts in the 80s with her unbelievable vocal range she dabbled in acting. She broke in to the biz with a bang in 1992 along side Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard and went on to appear in three other films by 1997. Around the same time her success took a turn for the worse during her rocky marriage to Bobby Brown and the couples’ reported drug fueled relationship.

But things had been looking up since 2007 after she was officially divorced from Brown. In 2009 she released the album, “I Look To You” which entered Billboard at #1 – the first time since her Bodyguard release. After coming clean with Oprah she went out on tour and was even slated for a film comeback.

Whitney is still the world’s most awarded female act of all time.

Headline: RIP Heavy D.

Sadly, Heavy D. (aka Dwight Arrington Myers) passed away today from respiratory issues. He was only 44. Thankfully the world was graced with a rare appearance by Heavy a few weeks ago at the BET Hip Hop awards. It was his first live performance in 15 years and the big man didn’t miss a step.

Heavy’s biggest success came in the heydays of 80s and 90s hip hop with three platinum and two gold records to his credit. He also created the epic TV theme songs for In Living Color and MadTV. But the man didn’t just make music for TV he also had a successful acting career which started with A Different World – the Cosby Show Spin-off. In recent years acting became his focus – he’s even in the current box office hit Tower Heist along side Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.

Jani Lane, the on-again-off-again member of Warrant was found dead earlier this evening at a hotel in Woodland Hills California. Jani was pivotal to the success of Warrant having written many of the band’s hits on their debut album Dirty Rotten Stinking Filthy Rich. He’s also credited for writing their most famous track Cherry Pie from their follow up Album by the same name. At the time of his death he wasn’t a member of the band having last performed with them in 2008. It’s rumored that song writing disagreements were the primary reason for his most recent departure from the band.
