Tee Planter Program

It’s official! We’ve entered into a tree planting partnership with weforest.org! Every t-shirt that’s sold through Defunkd is now backed by the planting of one tree. Vintage tees are green symbols as is – scoring points in the Reuse department. So we’re enhancing their green appeal by making the buyers and sellers involved in a Defunkd transaction “Tee Planters.”
The best part is that we’re honoring every Defunkd purchase that’s ever been made. 418 tees have been sold through Defunkd since the marketplace launched, so we’ve already funded the planting of 418 trees!
How can you be a Tee Planter? Simple:
- Buy tees on Defunkd.

Happy birthday to us! The marketplace portion of Defunkd was launched a year ago today! Man, time flies when you’re squashing bugs in a new platform. Thanks to all the beta sellers and buyers for their participation, patience and feedback. It really has been a collective effort.
We’ve come a long way in a year, a thousand new users, thousands of tees listed, hundreds of sales. We saw our traffic cut in half shortly after launch, but has since been fully restored. We’re averaging about 1000 hits daily now and steadily climbing. The secret to bouncing back was cutting our ties to eBay. You may have noticed our eBay bound links have been removed (with the exception of our forum, post ‘em there freely!) We were being penalized by search engines for an unnatural outbound linking pattern. Cutting of the umbilical cord was an inevitability anyway, our traffic is hard earned and it doesn’t make sense to direct it to another marketplace. Especially when that marketplace operates in way we believe to be damaging to the vintage t-shirt market, something we all hold dear to our hearts.

Kickin’ It With The Captain

Our pals over at The Captain’s Vintage are expanding their fleet with a line of Captain branded tees. They just launched a crowd-sourcing campaign on Kickstarter which offers tiered rewards for donations of 5 or more bucks.
The video attached to the campaign is awesomelarious (awesome and hilarious.) It got an early nod from the Academy for best retro: visual effects, sound and editing. There’s also a Commodore 64 cameo, the exact same model we have at our vintage HQ.

What the eff are Defunkd Deals, you ask? During these trying economic times we’re pledging to give you the lowest prices on vintage t-shirts. To make this possible the last few weeks we’ve been back on the hunt through mills and thrift stores to stockpile a nice little inventory that we’re pricing ridiculously low.
And by ridiculous we mean we’ll be scanning eBay for the same tee and reducing our price by around 50%. Maybe even more. And yes there will be plenty of name brand band tees! In queue is the 1980s Ozzy tee above. The cheapest one we could find is currently listed on eBay at $150 – at $34.99 we’re selling it for a fraction of that price. And if you’re savvy enough to dig up one of our coupon codes – you’ll score it for even cheaper. BAM!
There is one rule though. If you’re a dealer or store owner intending to purchase for the purpose of reselling, please refrain. There’s enough of that happening on eBay, so let the peeps have a crack at these!
