Year: 1987
Album: The House of Blue
Fact: Smoke on the Water is true tale about a fire in 1971 that destroyed a Switzerland casino. A Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention concert was held in the casino’s theatre which caught fire when a fan fired a flare gun into the rattan covered ceiling. Smoke from the fire spread across a lake that separated a hotel (where Deep Purple were staying) from the casino. DP watched the destructive blaze from their hotel room.

Year: 1974
Album: Secret Treaties
Fact: BOC was originally known as Soft White Underbelly. An unfavorable review of a 1969 Fillmore East performance prompted the first change to Oaxaca. Then came Stalk-Forrest Group, Santos Sisters until the band settled on Blue Öyster Cult in 1971.

Fact: “Slow Ride” is Foghat’s all time best selling single. It was named the 45th best hard rock song by VH1, but which version? There are five different versions of this song floating around on Foghat releases.

Fact: The name Foreigner was inspired by the citizenship of the original line up. Three members of the group were British and the other three were American.

Album: Time
Fact: In the song “Don’t Bring Me Down” most believed (and still do) that Jeff Lynne shouts “Bruce!” following the title line. However, he is actually saying a made-up word “Grroosss!” said to be inspired by a German word for “greeting”. But since so many people had misinterpreted it Lynne had a little fun at live shows while performing this song and used “Bruce!” instead.
