Grateful Dead Avalon 1966 - assume repro

Post by hokeypix »

I assume this Grateful Dead Family Dog 1966 Avalon tee is a repro, based on the Hanes Beefy T tag and the way it feels, etc.

Might it be 80s?

And, value?

thanks! (another Dead shirt which I'm pretty sure does have value up next).

Really depends on the clientele and location.

I've been selling at vintage shops for years.
Some things you can sell for much more than you would selling online.
Other things you might only be able to get half the price you would online.

You need to work out what YOUR customers would be happy to pay.

In this case I already have an interested customer who picked it out and is waiting for a price. I'm honestly clueless as I haven't been able to find others of this particular shirt, from the late 80s. Even a range would be super helpful, and I can take it from there. Thanks!

Someone else has the exact same shirt for sale on Etsy for just under $50USD.
It's likely worth about that.

Thanks again for the tip. Two things about the one listed on etsy that are different from mine, wondering if it makes a difference in any way?

- their tag is FOTL, mine is Hanes Beefy Tee

- the side of the graphic, bottom left near © FAMILY DOG PRODUCTIONS 1966, says BIG PRODUCTIONS - SAN FRANCISCO, whereas mine doesn't have that.

The link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/634280201/ ... ch_click=1

I welcome any input about this - thanks!

It doesn't make any difference.
Just means they were probably printed at different places that used different brand blanks.

OK cool...so the fact that one has "BIG PRODUCTIONS - SAN FRANCISCO" printed on it, and the other doesn't, isn't relevant in any way in terms of value? (I ask only because I've noticed that sometimes t-shirt valuation can turn on a dime due to minor or specific differences). Thanks.
