It's a chemical in the black dye that ultimately disintegrates the fabric.
Years of extreme temperature changes would also contribute to the process.

The green jersey looks to be dead stock. Still has the paper like tag under the Champion Blue Bar that was meant to be torn out. Yes. The black screen moved or got bumped during the printing process. Consequently the black didn't line up with the red. Black is always the last color to be printed.
