Bruce Springsteen Japan Tour '85 promo shirt

Post by shakescky »

alright, here's the deal with this one... i picked two of these up from an ebay seller who deals with japan promotional items. i received one in yellow (size large) and one in black (size small). i asked the seller about the t-shirt's history considering its condition (new) and also after having discussion with a few springsteen collectors who had never seen it before, yet thought it was possible the items are a promotional piece as there has been various bruce springsteen promotional clothing items for tours that features two different texts featured on two different albums. this is what the seller told me:
Hello. These were made for promotion and were distributed to the record shop. I bought it very in old days from the record shop. And I kept it.
to be fair, the seller's feedback is 100% with sales of various authentic promotional japan items, so i figured why the hell not? i feel the seller has no reason to lie.

photos are included below of the yellow shirt as that is the one i will be making available. i am unsure of the t-shirt's material, but it honestly feels like it could be 100% rayon. i thought someone might be able to assist me in figuring out what this might be worth. thanks for the help.

I'm not a dealer, so I'm not sure about value, but I do handle 100% rayon jerseys on a regular basis, so I'm quite sure that this piece has cotton in it.

Usually 100% rayon pieces have a sheen seen here:

the seller got back to me about the tags and says the shirt is 100% cotton. the brand is apparently known as KOBO. does anyone have any more information about this particular t-shirt brand?

High quality cotton can feel better than cotton/poly blends - we are just used to the garbage 100% cotton out these days.

Never heard of the brand - probably indigenous to Japan if he had to translate it for you.

I mentioned before that the yellow will hurt the value. It's a cool t-shirt but I don't believe this is worth all the leg work you're doing. For one, the Japanese know their vintage and will pay a premium for it - so the fact that you purchased it from Japan for relatively cheap....

What is the motivation here? Are you selling it or keeping it? You seem quite focused on this tee, just wondering why?

If you list it properly on eBay and it is indeed extremely rare, you'll get top dollar for it.

as you know, i ended up receiving two shirts in one auction; one in black (sized small) and one in yellow (sized large). i will keep the black one to wear, but i have no need for the yellow (large shirts are way too big for me), so i thought to either sell or trade it. the reason i am so focused on it is because i just want to make sure i have all details correct for whomever buys or trades with me. i do not want anyone to feel like they were ripped off. no offense taken by your question.

No worries, just explain the whole story and where you got it from in the listing. It's a foreign item to most of us, sorry we can't be of more help. What we need is an English fluent Japanese vintage expert to weigh in.
