whats this?

Post by nicotine »

hi nicotine from japan.
i have one military t-shirt that i thought it was current product. the other day i found one military t-shirt in one famous japanese vintage magazine that has same brand(?) tag on it. there it is introduced as 40's one. i was surprised to have same brand tag t-shirt. its brand name is American Athletic co according to the magazine.
here are photos of mine. check them please. and have you ever heard of this brand?
i still doubt this is a vintage thing.

The links don't work.

I've never seen the American Athletic brand name on any military uniforms, let alone 1940s military, which usually don't have the name of the manufacturer on them.

It's more likely that your jacket is based upon a classic vintage garment.

oops, I missed the t-shirt bit. I'm interested to hear what the t-shirt gurus have to say.

Why are you doubtful? It's certainly a possibility given that your tag matches that in the magazine, the 101 airborne dates to the WWII, and the material/collar style remind me of the 50s Champion T-shirt that I'd previously posted on the forum.

Are you looking to sell it?

Congrats, $7 is a a steal. Good call re: keeping it. Something this special should be treasured. That's the fantastic thing about vintage, you can sometimes pick up great stuff cheaply if you knwo what to look for. I picked up a 80s Judas Priest jersey in a resale shop for $5 a few months ago!

Seems to me like it might be a repro, especially if you found it in Japan. I think two color prints were more 50s?

The lightly printed "36" looks very convincing, almost too convincing - lots of attention to detail like Japanese vintage inspired stuff always is.

I've also never seen the brand before, although it's a little before my time. I'll get Rickykz to weigh in on it...he'll know whats up.

i dont expect it too much.

yeah two tone color is rare detail. but its not zero, right?
and you know, today its said that there are far more vintage stuff in japan than in the states. in fact i see many vintage military t-shirts including two tone ones in the web and magazines. i did doubt but i got to believe it is something old or vintage one. hehe.

and check them out.
they have really cool military tees from 40's.

you dont seem to have military t-shirt category.
they say vintage(not 80's 70's called regular stuff in japan but 40's or 50's) military t-shirt is one of the most difficult used stuff to collect.
