1969 WOODSTOCK T-Shirt, authentic???

Post by yahtzdog »

Hello, I purchased this shirt from a gentleman a few years back who mentioned he was a concert-goer at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival in Upstate NY. He said he had a t-shirt and ticket stub to prove it. He brought both to me and sold them for a reasonable price. This was around 8 years ago. I have been curious ever since if the t-shirt is authentic? I am aware that it is NOT one of the actual festival t-shirts given to staff to wear, but wonder if it was a re-print sold by the many vendors at the festival trying to capitalize off the concert attendees? The tag reads, "DUX". I know this is a clothing company. Were they making t-shirts in 1969? Many, many questions. Can anyone place a $ amount as to what the shirt may be worth today? Thank you for reading this and trying to help figure this out.

According to Max, my go-to WS tee guy, this is after the concert.

It's authentic vintage, however, likely not authentic WS merch.

He feels it's 70s, could be late 70s.

I'll dig into the tag further can you please let me know what that number along the bottom of the DUX tag, I can't make it out.

Also, interested to see the ticket stub!

So looks like the RN is 42999 - are you sure that last number is a 9?

It does seem to bring back results that make sense.

That rn was registered circa 1970.

It's connected to

BERNBLUM INTERNATIONAL

who owned a trademark for

"Imp Print"

Filed: July 28, 1969, which is slightly before the event.

The trademark was filed as:

SWEATSHIRTS, T-SHIRTS, JACKETS, AND GYM WEAR.

So perhaps it's closer to the event than closer to the end of the 70s.

But the registration date and the filing of the TM don't do much to help us figured out when the t-shirt was actually printed.

I can't find a shred of info on DUX t-shirts.

I have reached out to Steven Bernblum via email, who appears to be connected to the company, maybe he can shed some light!

Thank you Jimmy! I tend to want to believe the gentleman I purchased the shirt from. He was at the time around the age of a young man who would have attended (20 or so) and he had a bunch of stories that went along with it. I have since lost his contact information and forgot his name otherwise I would contact him directly and ask more specific questions about the shirt. I certainly hope this shirt can be dated to 1969 and his story adds up to be true.

I have heard of people selling bootlegs outside/on the way to the festival...but I also have first hand experience with someone claiming they got a shirt there - and it being made in the 80s.

But the person believed their story, despite having a tag that was first made in 1980.

I double-checked the RN number and it is in-fact, 42999. I plugged it into an RN calculator estimating the year around 1970. .

Is it premature to assign a monetary value to the shirt? Any idea what this is worth if it is indeed what we've concluded thus far? If it's too soon, what would need to be in place to make that determination? Thank you.

Could be somewhere between $250-750? The staff tees from the event fetch in the $1500-2500 range.
