Original? 1969 Woodstock sweatshirt

Post by AidenCollector »

This Sweatshirt came from an Estate in Virginia. The woman who owned the estate died in 72. Everything at the estate was 40s-60s.
The woman likely got this sweatshirt from the Concert.
Looking for any info.
The wpl , the blend, the construction, the graphic. Does it align with late 60s standard?

Very cool. Absolutely could be a 60s sweatshirt. It's not official WS, there's no record of staff ever being given sweatshirts. The fact that it's a sweatshirt - being sold at the event by bootleggers doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. While it wasn't reported to be extremely hot that weekend, it was still summer, and I don't see them peddling fall gear; it would have been heavier to tote around, too.

Additionally, the logo doesn't match the official staff logo from the event.

Seems to be a general rule of thumb, but the staff tees didn't feature the Woodstock font, which mostly appears on tees post-event.

Not sure if you saw, but a few months ago I did a really indepth deepdive into Woodstock merch. I studied every piece of footage/photo I could find from the event. Take a peek.

The other thing to note - the sweatshirt looks clearly worn, but the print looks brand new. Assuming the provenance is true, one possible explanation is that someone repurposed a sweatshirt they had kicking around, put a new print on it, and then it never got worn.

With all that said, my opinion is that this is a post-event bootleg.

One thing to note jimmy this was found in an abandoned house. the sweatshirt was folded up, stuck to another sixties sweatshirt, and the color bled over the years. The reason for the graphic being in good shape is due to it sitting since 1972 folded. Thank you for the info. This was in rural Virginia, and this print is original to the sweatshirt. Assuming its from the 60s what would the value be? No official merch, yes. Definitely not a staff issued. So what is it?

It's a post-event bootleg. Still very cool. People still appreciate them. People everywhere were making them, once the film dropped in 1970 the WS vibe spread far and wide - more than the actual event so there was a surge of unofficial WS tees right after.

I don't know how much $ because it being on a sweatshirt is a bit of an anomaly, but I would guess in the $100-300 range. Even a bootleg t-shirt we spotted at the event only sold for $700. And the legit staff ones have sold for less. Which is crazy, I think they are all currently undervalued.
