Red hot chili peppers 'bad otis'

Post by BrunelsUK »

Hi so i would quite like your guys opinion on this shirt. I only source from OG owners, and approach people that have not got anything for sale. Lady is a big RHCP fan, has a ton of shirts and posters! pictures with the band members ect. Has been to so many concerts! I had o intentions to resell the shirt if legit and offered to pay up quite a lot more because it was going to be in my personal collection forever.

The lady has been to RHCP gigs from the mids 80s all the way to now really, lots and lots! She has the best intentions and is not trying to pull a fast one over me. It took me a week to convince her to sale. Shes happy for me to back out the deal despite me already sending the money as she didnt really want to sell in the first place. She has photos of her wearing it in 2013, stamped not up for debate!

However two reputable people in the space tell me they dont think it is legit, it has differences to the ones other people have posted, its not on the 'right' tag, there is no copyright, the print is smaller. Am i reaching to say its just another variation? The lady is absouletely adamant she got it well before the 2000s, and even before 1991 as she has a black long sleeve from that year and says she thinks she got the bad otis shirt before it. She cant remember where or when exacatly but I cant blame her when shes been to so many RHCP gigs and just gigs in general. She has a ton of other shirts, a couple which im buying as well which are totally legit. She doesnt think its a car park bootleg as she believes she never bought any

Whats your take on it? The blank / tag is an XL and pit to pit is 20 inches'ish -

First things first, Belton, was cited as BOL's favorite tag when we interviewed him here:

"My favorite 50/50 was the Beltons, much nicer than Screen Stars."

https://www.defunkd.com/blog/2011/09/14 ... nk-part-1/

So this is one incredibly crafty bootlegger, or it's real.

I quickly found another one on a Belton's tag - the copyright thing, didn't notice any with that, with a quick search anyway.

Also looks to me like there are several color variants.

Let me know what they spotted as being "off" and I'll get in touch with Bad Otis and get his comments!

But gut says you're a-ok here.

Well thats the thing, they cite the other one you found as a fake as well! That and this example are the only two on that tag. Which i dont really understand why, i mean tbf the belton tag ones dont have a copy right! That is somewhat a red flag, they say the print is smaller. Its always on a hanes ect. But can this not just be another example of a bad otis shirt? A different variant? I want to be 100% on this.

They mention how thailand were bootlegging shirts in the 00s and 90s but i dont believe this is some thai fake.

To cut a long story short - the print is smaller, there is no copyright, its supposed to be on a hanes tag.

I attached a photo of a 100% genuine shirt! and circled the copyright

Did find the same print as mine on a screen stars! Also found someone videoing the shirt in 1986 though its impossible to make out the copyright but thought it was cool. Again though, apparently this screen stars shirt is a fake as well (it sold for like 600 bucks 4/5 years ago.) ....

Im totally confused on this entire thing now.

Heard back from BOL

"It looks pretty legit to me. And it looks like a very early one. These are early colors. Sometimes I changes the colors up. As good as it gets!!"
