Not super knowlegeable here, but when I review all the other results for 1996 CN t-shirts - none of the ones I found have a branded tag, not to mention a second branded tag. I feel like that likely came later in their timeline and the 1996 copyright represents the date it was copywritten, not when it was printed.

Dig around and try to find other CN shirts with the branding yours does.
