![[🔗LINK IN BIO] Sometimes, old t-shirts can't be immediately explained, let alone authenticated. This Beatles 1965 American Tour t-shirt is one of them. I acquired this tee in 2014 via a mysterious post when the Defunkd Vintage T-Shirt Marketplace was still running. I have been trying to make sense of it ever since. I was cautiously optimistic that it was a product of the '60s, we all want to believe we have a grail in our hands. Some colleagues felt the same; others said it wasn't vintage. I knew it wasn't official merch. But the onus of proof was on me, and with nothing to compare it to and zero information about it, it sat in my drawer forever. Finally, after jumping through hoops year after year, I got a lead when a second version of the t-shirt surfaced in 2024. With tag information now in hand, I managed to track down the gentleman who made them. But there's a discrepancy between when he claims it was made and when the t-shirt tag details were registered with the government. 👕This is a good read if you're interested in Beatles tees. What was the earliest Beatles tee? What is "beatlelegging"? Are the Butcher album t-shirts genuine Beatles merch? All these questions are answered during this mystery tour t-shirt saga. 🧐It's a must-read if you're interested in vintage t-shirt authentication. This is the most challenging one I have ever been involved with, with multiple prongs of investigation, combing over three decades of Rolling Stone magazine archives, newspaper archives, interaction with government representatives, and even exposing a flaw in their record keeping. It was well worth it and a true testament to the journey being more important than the destination. Many lessons were learned.
