Vintage 1972 Nike Olympic trials champion T-Shirt

Post by Jvbowers »

This shirt was given to athletes at the Olympic trials in Eugene Oregon in 1972 by Nike. My father was an athlete and recieved this. We recently came across this in his closet with the rest of his track and field memories.
Some research that I have done indicates that these shirts were the first apparel made by Nike. There were also 3 different colors this one being the black and white. His name was not printed on the back like some of the others and the reprints I have seen.
I have no idea what the value or how to go about finding that out. Any help would be appreciated.

What a beauty.

We wrote about this here, that t-shirt was apparently the first piece of Nike apparel other than their shoes, of course:

I have it as the most expensive nike t-shirt here:

https://www.defunkd.com/rare-vintage-nike-tees/

That $10k is just a wild estimate.

But I haven't been able to track the sale of one, there's no record of one selling on eBay, that I can find in past sales data.

Likely the ones with names on the back are worth more.

I could see yours going in the $2000+ range?

So hard to say, but perhaps more to the right person given the scarcity of these.

Let us know how it goes if you sell!

Thanks
I saw those articles which is what brought me here very well done.
I am not sure what we are going to do with it. Or what would be the best way to go about selling it.

Man, I would keep it. But yeah, I'm a biased vintage t-shirt guy.

Do you want me to post it on our Instagram and see what offers come in?

Are you on Instagram?

Could do it on the 26th, and link your IG account so people could DM you, or you could field DMs here.

Nice. Cool that your dad was involved in the '72 olympic trials and got one of those.
