Authentication Request: 1988 Harley-Davidson "Black Hills Classic" Sturgis Tee

Post by thehelenfinds »

Hey everyone, looking to get eyes on this one.

Picked up what appears to be a 1988 Harley-Davidson tee commemorating the Black Hills Classic rally in Sturgis. Wanted to get the community's take before I commit to it.

**Details I've noted:**
- Front graphic: "Road Rebel" — biker hog on a chopper, American flag background
- Back graphic: "Black Hills / Sturgis '88 / Oldest and Best / Classic" with the HD bar & shield logo
- Printer tag reads: **3D Emblem, Ft. Worth, TX © 1988**
- Neck label: **Official Harley-Davidson Motor Cycles**, size **L**, 100% Cotton
- Care label manufacturer: **Holoubek, RN 72199**, Made in USA
- Single-stitch sleeves and hem
- Fabric shows age-appropriate fading; some wear on sleeve seams

**Photos:** https://imgur.com/a/WKVCM1A

The Holoubek + 3D Emblem combo feels right for late-80s licensed HD merch, but I'd love confirmation from folks who know this era well. Any red flags I might be missing?

Thanks in advance!

Added macro shots as suggested — halftone texture of the print, © 1988 copyright area, and ® symbol on the 3D Emblem logo. Hope this helps with authentication.

I reached out to Steve M who designed the rear print, he said at some points they did have some bad printers.

That said, this isn't the original 3D version that commands top dollar, gut says it's a modern repro version created after.

Take a look at the true one we authenticated a year plus ago:

See how yours is missing the artist's signature on the front? also missing the detail around the coin falling out of his pocket? but compare the whole thing to the OG posted below and you'll understand the sheer lack of detail.

In the authentication above there's a closeup of the licensing, compare em. Wrong font. Also, from what I can see (I'm not a screen print expert) but it looks as though this print has white as the underlay / base print, the original did not have that.

Even if this was real, and a terrible printing job, it's not going to command a lot of money because of all these issues.
