Feels and looks to me like it’s 100% cotton
Hems and construction are thick and heavy
Lack of tag is what throws me off.
The thread around the back collar looks pristine which makes me think it wouldn’t be 80s as there isn’t any torn thread / tag remnants stitched in

agree, champion stuff is usually tagged/branded - so you're always going to have an uphill battle proving it is. There's a gent on IG that might be able to tell via the construction:
