Good Clean Fun

dancarcillosmoustache is going to help me tell my Good Clean Fun story. I actually have a few stories, but we’ll focus on this gig.

October 17, 2006 @ The Attic Santa Cruz CA: Good Clean Fun, This Is Hell, A Global Threat, Strike Anywhere, Bane

I was rolling with Bane for a week. This was about halfway through my stint with them. The tour had started weeks prior to me hanging with them. And it was 4 bands the whole tour. An interesting lineup, no doubt. It helped attract a very diverse crowd to every gig. But it worked for them. The shows were cool, and the 4 bands rocked every show.

So one night, we rolled up on Santa Cruz. We got there early and the crowd was still real light. Dudes got eats, I hit up that awesome grocer down the street. By the time I got back, there was a surprise at the front door of the club. Good Clean Fun had shown up and wanted on the gig in the worst way. I don’t recall if their gig was canceled or if they had an open night on their tour. I honestly can’t recall. But they begged and pleaded to play the gig.

All the bands agreed they could play BUT they would not break up the 4 bands’ sets. So Good Clean Fun ended up opening the gig while 6 kids watched. It was a little sad. The venue isn’t huge but the crowd was super thin through out their whole set. Issa seemed pleased and the whole crew seemed into it. They set up a super large amount of merch. Lots of POSI hoods. Not a lot sold though.

I missed this part, but after GCF played, Issa stepped outside, and a crew of kids on bikes rode by the venue and completely covered him with silly string. They rode straight up and just shot him in the face with it. Apparently the whole time, he had his hands out and was just saying, “why are you doing this?” Later, I heard it was retaliation for some shit Issa had pulled, but I honestly can’t recall what it was.

So that was weird. But here’s where it gets even weirder. And this one I watched from start to finish from about 4 feet away.

After the gig, dudes were hanging in front of the venue. One of the Good Clean Fun dudes was talking to some other dudes while the van was being packed. He was just standing around shooting the shit. And most of you dudes know how PC Good Clean Fun is. Well, this is the weird part. This dude, must have been some roadie guy, started talking smack. It wasn’t immediately obvious if he was playing around, or trying to be ironic. Whoever he was talking to wasn’t appreciating it, and when the GCF roadie suddenly dropped the word “FAGGOT,” he also dropped to the sidewalk. That’s because he had just got a punch in the face. Along with the punch in the face, he also got a chipped tooth.

Oddly, for the next 4-5 minutes, the whole Good Clean Fun crew searched the sidewalk and gutter for the piece of this dude’s tooth. They couldn’t find it, packed up and left. SO FUCKING WEIRD.

There you have it. GCF puts the HA in Hardcore.

ive heard many a story about how difficult issa is to work with/be around so id say eventually he was running out of allies and had to ease up on his screening process for perspective bandmates/roadies (hence the dropping of the word faggot) the last time i saw them (which was around 06 as well ) they had just put out a new cd but he had gone through an entire lineup change by the time the album came out..which was funny because the album was called “between christian rock and a hard place” but by the time it came out the band had a bassist whos a christian and going to seminary.
