How Soon Is Too Soon?

Seller over on Vinyl Noize, I asked the question, just how soon IS too soon to be posting up limited merch? We didn’t get any answers over there, so given the large amount of tees he has up, I figured I’d ask peoples thoughts on it again over here as well…

He also has auctions going under the name negativepollution (which is where you can find the vinyl); apparently eBay has a limit on how many auctions you can have up at once? Anyways, those auctions also include the Backtrack “Welcome to the Dog Pound” tee from last years This Is Hardcore, which, since it was fest merch, I’m including here. He also is selling a bunch of stuff that is non-fest specific, as he says he’s getting rid of almost everything he’s got, so don’t take this as me calling him out. It just made me want to bring the topic up for discussion.

I know the dude selling all of this and he’s backed. Unfortunately, I wish he had contacted his friends (myself included) before throwing some of this up on eBay. I think the money is going towards his band.

the selling limit is cause he’s new to ebay and perhaps unverified w/ paypal.

I’m not big into new, limited merch, but I fail to see any issue with reselling right away when it is something distributed only in one specific place (ie, United Blood stuff) so long as one didn’t buy out the table and try to fuck over everyone else who was actually there. Besides, it’s the ridiculousness of some kids willing to pay a ton for new merch that even makes this possible. As an old guy, the 100 plus for a shirt produced last week baffles me when good quality old stuff from sits at low prices. But I also wear the bulk of my shirts, so I’m weird like that.

I see this as quite different from the people who work at record stores or who were first in line and bought everything flipping RSD exclusives that were supposed to be “fairly” distributed and others at the store never even got to see.

yo shane tyrer, are you the one selling this stuff?

  4. shane says:

Haha. Different shane entirely. I’m not selling this stuff–just offering my 2 cents.

Yeah, I am selling these. I got a call the other day from some friends asking me to go out on tour with their band. I wanna be able to rock, but I’m also unemployed, so I threw most stuff I own up on eBay. Some of that stuff just so happened to be from the UB fest. I started all the auctions at $5.00 (with the exception of a couple items). It’s up to the world of eBay to decide if they wanna pay more than that.
Think I wanna sell that Life Of Agony shirt? No really. But I need $$$.
I still have more to list. Nothing is overly cool or whatever.. but I’m definitely selling everything I own with the exception of a couple necessities. Check back on the usernames if you wanna win some jeans I don’t like.. or other snapback hats.. or some funny sports team merch.
    Yeah.
