Straight Ahead May 5th CBGBs

NYHC

Straight Ahead.

You had me in the first two lines. It doesn’t hurt that the Straight Ahead font makes me think of Coca Cola Classic.

Great flyer for sentimental reasons, obviously. Right out of Duane Some Records’ collection. Sweet.

Maybe Brett will post about running to get a hot dog. Actually, I think that was a different gig. But pretty chill lineup.

Straight Ahead, Beyond Possession, Sick Of It All and YDL. I’m not much of a YDLmin, but I’m sold.

You may be wondering who Beyond Possession was. Well, they sum it up nicely. “Beyond Possession is Beyond Possession. We know who we are….do you?”

What year was this? It was 9 days before my birthday. I was probably turning 9. So while dudes were moshing to SA, I was eating cake and reading comic books. Fair trade.

I was at this show…other than seeing some great bands (SOIA and SA) for the 3rd or 4th time, my best recollection of this show was this. Beyond Possession was a crossover act from Canada, I believe and all the skinheads who had just got done watching YDL were making fun of the band. They were putting their shirts on their heads pretending it was long hair and banging their heads to the band. After the set, Jason from Krakdown walks into Some Records where a group of us were hanging out. “God, I wanted to kick all those guys asses who were making fun of Beyond Possession! That band rocked!!” We all started laughing because it was probably the last thing we ever suspected would come out of his mouth. I guess you had to be there…

Wasn’t this the show Adam missed after being arrested for jumping the subway turnstile?
