These jerseys are popping up more and more often and being passed off as legit vintage. I did a little digging around and suspect Mahagamage is marketed at people in Japan given it commonly appears among Yahoo! Japan auctions. Another search highlights a gentleman by the name of Susil “Tony” Mahagamage who just so happens to be in the vintage business. He works for Denim King Vintage Wholesalers – Transatlantic Mixrags and most likely has ties to it. Perhaps a vintage inspired side business to his flourishing used clothing operation? Although no where online is he directly linked to the t-shirt brand but if he isn’t it would be one heck of a coincidence. He’s also located in Los Angeles which makes sense given the Tiny Pony/Academy Clothiers gang use Mahagamage for a lot of their bootlegs (label removed of course.) We’ve contacted Tony and others at his company to get the scoop, check the comments section for updates and other incarnations of the tag.
Below is what the seller of this item had to say in the description. Notice how many times they drive home the point of the shirt being real. A wee bit overkill? This has to be the most ridiculous description I have ever encountered for a t-shirt that clearly isn’t vintage. It has bids – hopefully it doesn’t fetch a lot.
